To celebrate 80 years of Book Week St Brendan’s Primary School Moorooka invited local kindergarten children to their colourful, fun and heartwarming literacy event ‘Reading Rug’.
As part of the event, Years 5 and 6 students took on a special leadership role as storytellers, sharing their love of reading with the youngest members of their wider community.
St Brendan’s Primary School Acting Principal Sharelle Simpson said their senior students have carefully selected a favourite book, dressed as a character from its pages, and spent weeks practising how to bring their story to life for the younger children.
“This event is a wonderful opportunity for our students to engage with the broader community and give back in a meaningful way,” she said.
“By sharing stories with younger children, our senior students not only develop confidence and leadership skills but also help spark a love of reading in the next generation.”
